Big Thompson Recreation and Conservation Assessment, Vision, Plan

December 31, 2016

We applaud Larimer County staff, Loveland, the Larimer County Open Lands Advisory Board and the Big Thompson River Restoration Coalition for their visionary approach to planning recreation and conservation for the Big T along 40 miles of the mainstem and the North Fork of the River between the municipal boundaries of Loveland and Estes Park.  CWF Issues Committee Co-Chair Walt Graul and the Friends of the Big Thompson, have made extensive public comment during the process.

CWF Issues Committee Co-Chair Walt Graul reports that much work is slated to begin on stretches of the Big T to repair habitat in 2017. Much of the funding for the projects that will be undertaken by the Big Thompson Watershed Coalition will be supplied by the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Colorado Water Conservation Board. For more information about theprojects see the article in the Loveland Reporter-Herald (December 25).  See link below.  Walt also noted that a friend who fished the stretch near the Waltonia bridge in late summer said he caught fish "in every hole that looked good: browns, rainbows and cutbows." So things are starting to improve!
