As shown in the Strategy pdf doc, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has developed 7 strategies to recover mule deer populations in western Colorado. Some western populations have been in decline for the last several years and are the focus of the strategy document. Note that some mule deer populations are at objective, such as in Middle Park and Gunnison area.

The strategy document was approved by the Parks and Wildlife Commission at its December 2015 meeting and CPW is working to implement strategies as opportunities are presented. Some of the items listed in the document have been undertaken in various areas as opportunities present.   Approval of the strategies elevates them to a statewide level.
